Kosovo police have arrested a Kosovo Serb named as Alexander Bulatovic on the Kosovo-Serbia border for war crimes allegedly committed in 1999 in Fushe-Kosovo, known as Kosovo Polje in Serbian.
The EU?s rule of law mission, EULEX, confirmed to BIRN that the suspect was presented to a court on Tuesday night, and placed in 15 days' detention pending a court hearing.
?The suspect is wanted for war crimes committed against the civilian population in Fushe-Kosove in 1999,? the spokesperson added.
Bulatovic is wanted for the murder of Xheladin Idrizi, a Kosovo Albanian killed in April 1999 at his home. Another two Kosovo Serbs, who remain at large, are also wanted for this crime.
The arrest warrant against the suspects was raised in 2009 by an EULEX prosecutor based on statements from the neighbours of the victim.
Over 150 Kosovo Albanians were killed in the town during the 1999 war, Ahmet Grejcevci, of the Association Searching for Missing Persons and War Crimes in the municipality, told BIRN.
Police said Bulatovic was apprehended at the northeastern border crossing at Merdare two days ago, based on a warrant issued by a EULEX prosecutor.
Media in Belgrade said the suspect had travelled previously from Serbia to Kosovo, and had never been arrested before.
The Serbian daily Blic said Bulatovic works as a car mechanic in the Serbian city of Nis, where he has lived with his wife and two children since the end of the war in Kosovo.
Thirteen years after the end of war in Kosovo, of 6,019 persons reported to the International Red Cross as missing by their families, over 1,400 remain unaccounted for. Most are Kosovo Albanians.
