Hats off to the Queen's Marriage | Smart Relationships

While all of Britain is commemorating the Queen?s 60-year rein with her Diamond Jubilee,?we?d like to tip our hats to the enduring romance she has enjoyed with Prince Philip. It was just five years ago that Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip celebrated their own Diamond anniversary, making her the longest wedded sovereign in the British Monarchy history.

Married in 1947,?it has been said by those closest to them that the secret to their wedded bliss is the fact that they are also the best of friends.? While they don?t talk about their relationship publically, an exception was made during the celebration of their 50th wedding anniversary in 1997.

Of Philip, the Queen said: ??He has, quite simply, been my strength and stay all these years, and I, and his whole family, and this and many other countries, owe him a debt greater than he would ever claim or we shall ever know.?

And asked the recipe for their successful marriage, Philip quipped: ?Tolerance is the one essential ingredient ? You can take it from me that the Queen has the quality of tolerance in abundance.?

For Royal buffs, a link to 60 details of that momentous occasion including the nine foot cake cut with a sword:?http://www.royal.gov.uk/HMTheQueen/TheQueenandspecialanniversaries/DiamondAnniversary/60facts.aspx

And just for fun, here?s their wedding certificate.
