Student to carry the flame as the Olympics come to London

Monday 02 July 2012

A student at the University who has dedicated her time to inspiring young people has been selected to be one of the torchbearers in this year's Olympic Torch Relay.

Reena Silva, who recently completed a BA Digital Media Production course at the University's Ealing School of Art, Design and Media, will be carrying the Olympic Torch on 23 July 2012 in Bromley, South London.

Reena was nominated for this momentous occasion due to her motivational outlook and for her passion and dedication in working with young people to help them reach their full potential.

Youth work has always been important to Reena having worked in Cedars Youth Club in Chiswick and trained as a youth worker.

During her time at the University, Reena served as a student ambassador and worked on the Government's Aim Higher scheme as a mentor for young people.

Commenting on her selection for the Olympic Torch Relay, Reena, said:

'I feel extremely honoured to have been given the opportunity to carry the torch in the Olympic Torch Relay.?? I have a chance to show young people that with hard work and determination you can achieve your goals. I am nervous about running but also extremely excited about my leg of the relay. It will be an amazing experience and a chance to show the world how much London and its people has to offer.'
